Borderline personality. What is a borderline symptom and how to diagnose it?

It is estimated that about 1-2% of the world's population suffers from this disease. Borderline personality disorder, the so-called borderline personality disorder, is associated with a lot of suffering not only for those who suffer from this disorder, but also for those closest to them. The symptoms of the disorder strongly affect the relationships formed by people with borderline condition, making it difficult to build and maintain stable relationships. So what is the manifestation of emotional personality disorder, how to recognize it and treat it correctly?
The main symptoms of the disorder
According to the definition, BPD is a disorder that lies between psychotic (schizophrenic) and neurotic (neurosis) disorders. Symptoms include, among other things, a strong feeling of negative emotions, fatigue from the surrounding reality, a desire for extreme sensations and a fear of rejection. Borderline anxiety is a disorder that is also characterized by sudden mood swings, a distorted self–image, and a strong, persistent sense of meaninglessness and emptiness. Strong emotions caused by people struggling with the disorder are one of the causes of irrational behavior. For example, "borderline people" tend to burn bridges – the fear of being abandoned means that they prefer to break off certain relationships first, so as not to experience rejection from another person later. Their extreme behavior is also often a form of "test," during which they test the stamina of the person they are in a relationship with.
Social context
People with BPD are characterized by the fact that they strive for extreme life experiences and very often get involved in difficult relationships and problematic situations themselves. Bored with everyday life, not finding positive emotions in it, they are also very often drawn to various stimulants, including alcohol and drugs, which in fact only exacerbate the existing problem. The inability to overcome both crisis situations and emerging addictions on their own, in turn, exacerbate stress and negative attitudes towards the world. People with borderline relationships in personal relationships have a very strong behavioral impact on their partners, often giving them extreme experiences and depriving them of any emotional stability. On the other hand, because of the fear of being abandoned and a distorted self-image, they expect constant assurances of their feelings for them.
Diagnosis and treatment
To diagnose an emotionally unstable person, that is, a person with borderline disorder, requires at least five of the nine criteria listed, which include: a strong fear of rejection (and doing everything to avoid it), unstable interpersonal relationships full of extremes, emotions, personality disorder, high impulsivity of behavior, repetitive self-destructive behavior emotional instability and severe mood swings, constant feelings of meaninglessness and emptiness, uncontrolled verbal and physical aggression, paranoid thoughts. The treatment of a patient with an emotionally unstable personality consists primarily of working with a psychologist, sometimes also with a psychiatrist. The main element of treatment is therapy, sometimes lasting many years. Pharmacological treatment is also relatively often used to relieve some of the symptoms associated with the disease.
